The tools marketed as "quoting automation" or "AI-powered quoting software" solve two very different problems, and most comparison articles treat them as interchangeable.
They are not.
Two different problems
Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ)
Built for outbound quoting
A sales rep sits down to build a quote, and the tool helps them configure the product, apply the right pricing, and generate a clean document. The input is a human. The output is a quote. CPQ makes the rep faster and more consistent. A CPQ tool does not eliminate the manual work of processing inbound RFQs and BoQs.
Inbound quoting automation
Built for the opposite direction
A customer sends a request by email, and the system reads it, interprets what the customer wants, matches it to your product catalog, and generates a draft quote without a rep touching it. The input is an email. The output is a draft the rep reviews and approves. Inbound automation removes the rep from the routine steps entirely. An inbound tool does not help a rep configure a complex bespoke product for a new customer.
This guide covers four inbound quoting automation tools and four CPQ tools. The CPQ tools are included because they frequently appear in the same evaluation process and because understanding why they don't solve the inbound problem clarifies the choice.

Inbound Quoting Automation Tools
turian
Inbound quoting automationTurian's RFQ Intake and Quotation agents handle the full inbound quoting workflow from the moment a request arrives. A customer sends an email (free-text, PDF attachment, Excel file, GAEB, or any combination) and the agent reads it, interprets what the customer wants, matches each line item against the internal product catalog, applies current pricing from the ERP, and prepares a draft quote for review. The inside sales rep reviews and approves rather than building from scratch.
The matching layer is LLM-based, which means it does not require product codes to identify the right item. A customer writing "500 units of the same connector we ordered last spring" is handled through order history reasoning. A customer describing a product specification in their own language is matched through contextual interpretation of the specification against the product master.
Exceptions are surfaced as structured cards with the context assembled, ready for resolution in under two minutes. The team focuses on the cases that need judgment; everything else moves automatically.
Strongest fit
Mid-market distributors and manufacturers in the DACH region receiving a high proportion of German-language, variable-format, email-based quote requests, including GAEB files in construction supply contexts.Turian is not a CPQ tool. It does not help a rep build a complex bespoke configuration from scratch. Its value is highest when a meaningful proportion of inbound requests are for catalogued or semi-standard products, and the bottleneck is processing volume rather than engineering complexity per quote.
Best suited when
100 to 1,000 employees. Mid-market B2B distributors, manufacturers, and technical wholesalers, primarily DACH but broader European coverage.100 to 1,000 employee technical distributors, manufacturers, wholesalers. DACH and broader Europe.
Free-text email, PDF (structured and scanned), Excel (any format), GAEB (.X83, .D83, other phases), mixed documents
Bidirectional. SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Dynamics 365, Infor, ProAlpha, others. Reads master data, writes confirmed quote data directly.
No training data required. Live within weeks. Implementation handled by turian's team.
Go Autonomous
Inbound quoting / autonomous commerceGo Autonomous handles the full RFQ-to-confirmed-order cycle without manual handoffs. It processes multi-line RFQs: each product identified, each line priced against the customer's specific contract, tier, and volume thresholds from the ERP. When the customer accepts, the PO is matched to the accepted quote, validated against live ERP data, confirmed, and written. There is no handoff between the quotes team and the order entry team.
Published customer data
Danfoss executes orders and quotes in under one minute across 26 countries. Mediq processes 91% of commercial requests including quotes and orders autonomously.Go Autonomous is positioned at the enterprise and upper mid-market end of the spectrum. Its deployment model, commercial terms, and the operational complexity it is designed for suit companies processing very high volumes across multiple countries and ERP systems. For a single-country mid-market distributor with a straightforward product catalog, the scope may be wider than needed.
Confirm before evaluating
Its handling of highly unstructured input (GAEB files, complex multi-trade BoQs, free-text emails in German from small customers) is not its primary focus. Its strength is high-volume, consistent RFQ formats from established customer relationships.Upper mid-market to enterprise manufacturers and B2B distributors with high, consistent RFQ volume across multiple countries.
Email, PDF, structured formats. Primary strength is consistent, high-volume RFQ formats.
SAP, Oracle, Infor, IFS, Microsoft Dynamics 365. Bidirectional.
6 to 12 weeks to live autonomous RFQ response.
Inbound Quoting Automation Tools (continued)
Mercura AI
Inbound quoting automationMercura AI (mercura.ai, distinct from Mercura CPQ at mercura.io, which is a separate product) is a Munich-based AI quoting and order automation platform targeting distributors and manufacturers. It extracts relevant items from any request (PDF, GAEB, or email) and matches each line item to products in the catalog. It also suggests spec-compliant alternatives and accessories, and by prioritising high-margin private labels, it applies margin optimisation logic to the matching step.
Its core offering includes an intelligent automation platform that interprets complex specifications and tender texts, linking them directly to appropriate products and services. For construction supply contexts, Mercura handles GAEB files. It also covers supplier RFQ workflows: for sending distributors, flagging items, assigning suppliers, and batch-sending RFQs; for receiving manufacturers, detecting duplicate requests across projects.
Backing
Raised a €1.8M seed round in December 2025, backed by Y Combinator, TQ Ventures, SignalFire, and angel investors including Bastian Nominacher (CEO of Celonis). A genuine signal of technical ambition.Mercura is early stage. Production deployment depth at mid-market B2B companies should be confirmed before shortlisting. For companies that need a proven implementation track record rather than strong demos, this matters.
Naming caution
There is potential confusion with Mercura CPQ (mercura.io). Confirm which product you are evaluating and which URL represents the vendor before proceeding.Mid-market distributors and manufacturers, with a construction supply and DACH orientation based on current customer profile.
PDF, GAEB, email. Free-text handling: confirm scope with the vendor.
SAP, Oracle, and others via enterprise-grade security standards. Depth of native integrations should be confirmed directly.
Early stage. Timeline should be confirmed with the vendor based on your specific ERP and document mix.
Endeavor AI
Inbound quoting automationEndeavor AI is an AI platform for manufacturing and distribution that covers quoting alongside several other sales and operations workflows. On the quoting side, it extracts customer request details, applies pricing rules, and generates a quote. It validates quotes against current product availability, volume discounts, and custom configurations, and syncs confirmed quotes with the ERP.
Endeavor's broader platform scope covers order entry, invoice matching, ASN generation, and cash collection alongside quoting automation. For companies looking to consolidate multiple automation workflows onto a single platform, this is relevant.
Endeavor's market presence and customer references are primarily in North America. For European mid-market companies, particularly those in the DACH region where GAEB format support, German-language processing, and EU data residency are requirements, fit should be confirmed carefully before shortlisting.
Confirm before shortlisting
Companies whose primary need is specifically inbound quoting automation may find more depth in purpose-built tools. GAEB and European format support should be confirmed directly.Mid-market to enterprise manufacturers and distributors, primarily US market.
Email, PDF, structured formats. GAEB and European format support: confirm directly.
ERP-agnostic, API-based integration. Specific connectors should be confirmed with the vendor.

CPQ and Adjacent Tools: Outbound Quoting, Different Problem
Before reading these profiles
The four tools below appear frequently in quoting automation evaluations alongside inbound tools. They are legitimate products. They solve a different problem: outbound quote creation by a sales rep. They do not address the inbound processing bottleneck that inbound automation tools solve. If your primary challenge is helping a rep build complex bespoke quotes faster and more consistently, these tools are relevant. If your primary challenge is processing a high volume of incoming customer RFQs without proportional headcount growth, they are not.Oracle CPQ
Configure-Price-Quote (outbound)Oracle CPQ focuses on manufacturing and B2B companies with complex pricing rules and multi-currency requirements. It handles complex product catalogs and business logic, and is best suited to global manufacturing companies and distributors with complex partner channels where the quoting challenge is configuring highly complex products with interdependent options, channel-specific pricing, and global approval workflows.
Oracle CPQ assumes a rep is building the quote. It provides a guided configuration interface, pricing rules, and approval workflows for that rep. It does not read an incoming customer email, extract what the customer wants, and match it to your catalog.
Out of scope for inbound processing
The inbound document processing step is outside Oracle CPQ's scope. It is most cost-effective for organisations already running Oracle ERP.Large enterprise. Oracle ecosystem organisations with complex product configuration requirements.
Oracle ERP, with broader integrations via API.
Enterprise pricing, on request.
Salesforce CPQ
Configure-Price-Quote (outbound)Salesforce CPQ is the quoting layer within the Salesforce ecosystem. For companies using Salesforce as their CRM, it provides guided configuration, pricing rules, contract management, and quote document generation tightly integrated with the Salesforce data model. Salesforce CPQ is built for quotes that originate inside Salesforce: a rep converts an opportunity to a quote, configures the product, applies pricing, and generates the document.
It does not read incoming customer emails or process external RFQ documents.
Out of scope for inbound processing
For B2B distributors whose customers send orders and quote requests by email, Salesforce CPQ does not address the front-door problem. It is the right tool only if Salesforce is already your core sales platform.Mid-market to enterprise companies running Salesforce as their core sales platform.
Salesforce ecosystem. ERP integration via middleware or connectors.
Tiered. Available via Salesforce pricing.
DealHub
Configure-Price-Quote (outbound)DealHub is a modern CPQ platform with strong support for subscription pricing models, complex approval chains, and digital proposal delivery. It is well-positioned for B2B SaaS companies where the quoting challenge is building and presenting proposals in a rep-led sales process.
DealHub is built for the outbound quoting motion. Its design assumes a rep-led sales process, not automated processing of inbound customer requests.
Out of scope for inbound processing
For manufacturing and distribution environments where the volume problem is processing incoming RFQs, DealHub is not the right category.Mid-market to enterprise B2B SaaS and subscription businesses.
Salesforce, HubSpot, and others via API.
Available on request.
Esker
Document automation platformEsker is a document automation platform covering AP and AR workflows. On the AR/sales side, it processes incoming customer documents through a configured routing workflow and pushes structured data to the ERP. For companies that want to consolidate multiple document types onto a single platform, it provides broad coverage. It has genuine European market presence and strong SAP integration.
Esker is a process orchestration tool. Its intelligence is in the routing rules rather than in contextual interpretation of request content. For inbound quoting specifically, where the core challenge is interpreting what the customer wants, matching it to the product catalog, and resolving ambiguities, Esker's rule-driven approach requires ongoing configuration to handle the variability of real customer requests.
It routes documents; it does not reason about them
GAEB format support should be confirmed for construction supply contexts. Best suited where BoQ or RFQ processing is one of several AR document workflows to consolidate.Mid-market to large enterprise, particularly where BoQ/RFQ processing is one of several AR document workflows to automate together.
Email, EDI, PDF, portal. GAEB support should be confirmed.
Broad. Strong SAP integration. Oracle, Dynamics, and others.
Volume-based with implementation fees. On request.
How to choose
The category question comes first: is your primary problem processing incoming customer RFQs at volume, or helping reps build complex outbound quotes? If the former, tools 1 to 4 are the relevant shortlist. If the latter, tools 5 to 7.
Within the inbound automation category, the distinction for a European mid-market buyer is largely about scale, sector, and geography.

Confirm fit firstThe question to ask any inbound automation vendor
If you take one thing from this comparison, make it this question:
"Show me how your system handles a quote request where the customer sends a free-text email in German with no product codes, referencing a previous order. Walk me through every step the system takes and what my team sees at the end."
The answer tells you more than any feature comparison table.
